Ashland

Back to Oregon and one of our favorite cities, Ashland

After several months in California around Granite Bay and Loomis we enjoyed our time immensely and had to say a Bittersweet goodbye to family but we are also excited to get back on the road doing what we love which is traveling in our RV!

The the drive took over 6 hours all in all but it was a beautiful day and we had no trouble and hit very little traffic. We made a few stops along the way of course and did not get much of a view of Mount Shasta due to Super dense clouds hovering right above it.

We have stayed in Ashland many times before and we love the city. Last year we stayed at glenyan Canyon RV park and had a great time. We loved how the RV park was right up against a creek so there was a constant white noise in the background.

Anyhow so this time we are staying at Emigrant Lake Campground which is stunning. You can’t beat the price at $30 and night and the views are spectacular. The entire Lake and RV park is nestled between some hills overlooking the lake and every spot has a great view. There is tons of hiking around boat docks fishing camping playgrounds everything you name it. It has a resort vibe.

This is the view looking out our living room right now!

And this boat ramp is actually looking back at the RV park. Our RV is directly in the center….kinda under a shade tree.

Of course we had to visit Lithia Park and hang out at the playground a few times. We also went to grab drinks and lunch at Standing Rock Brewery.

What a gorgeous day we got to enjoy. Not a cloud was in the sky except for the Chemtrails LOL. We had an awesome day together and happy to be back in our little (big) RV.

I remembered why I love spring in Oregon!

We sat on the patio at a place called overalls which overlooked the creek and was amazing. By the way they have Super Mario Brothers 3 so if you have kids it’s a great place to hang out and keep them entertained!

Here’s to more nice weather while we’re here!

Top Things to do in Ashland, Oregon

Here is our list of things to do in Ashland Oregon. Some are kid-friendly some are not. We learned that you have to check with each individual bar to see if they allow children inside. Oregon has some funny laws about serving alcohol in vicinity of children.

VISIT LITHIA PARK

This park is world-renowned for its beautiful space, expansive playground, and great hiking trails. Ashland Creek runs straight through it so the entire time you are surrounded by the sound of water. There are also several large ponds, lots of ducks deer and Wildlife to be seen. An amazing Park to go to!
DRINK LITHIA SPRINGS MINERAL WATER

Pic here!

Okay I’ll admit it. I tried it. Did I like it? No. It tastes like some like a blend of sulfur and flower and terrible fumes and your face all at once. It is not good but apparently it’s very healthy to drink and full of vitamins. I’d rather take the daily supplement instead of drinking that again though.

GRAB A DRINK DOWNTOWN AT BLACK SHEEP PUB

What an entrance. You have to walk up a giant flight of red carpet stairs before you get inside the British theme Pub. Apparently the place is closing in the next few months which makes us sad because it’s been in business for nearly 25 years. It is well-known around Ashland and has a great selection of beers. We ended up just getting a giant platter of french fries which was served with Organic ketchup and malt vinegar.

VISIT STANDING STONE BREWERY

The beer selection is fantastic and reasonably priced. They also have a nice patio out on the west side where you can watch the sunset. We did not get any food here but we did get drinks in a flight of beers which was super fun period a great atmosphere and child-friendly place.
VISIT GRANITE TAPROOM

This place is located in the heart of downtown on a 3rd floor space overlooking the valley below. Great drinks and happy hour specials! Lots of local microbrewery!

VISIT THE GROWLER GUYS FOR DRINKS

This place is definitely child and dog friendly. It is not located in the heart of downtown but still has a great view of the mountains around. They have a fantastic patio and a great beer selection with over 60 beers on tap. The only downside is that their food was definitely not fantastic. We ended up with garlic bread and sauce that was less than desirable but the beer made up for it.
GRAB SOME BUBBLE TEA AT DOBRA TEA IN DOWNTOWN ASHLAND

The shop has a great location on one side of the river that is very close to the downtown vicinity. I got an awesome Thai tea which was a blend of black and oolong tea mix with coconut milk. It was really good and cost about $5.50. Tons of other tea combinations made fresh and in-house. Highly recommended!

DISC GOLF

We are huge disc golf fans and try to play as often as possible. We ended up finding a course on the Southern Oregon University campus. I believe it was only 9 holes, and was a bit difficult to navigate at times but was really fun to play. The course slash school grounds are very well-manicured with lots of big beautiful trees.
PLAY A ROUND AT OAK KNOLL GOLF COURSE

This is a public golf course located just outside of downtown Ashland. The golf course looks absolutely amazing and well-manicured. It is centralized in the valley so it’s mostly flat with some light Rolling Hills. The prices are really reasonable as well for a 9-hole or 18-hole round. Golf cart rentals available!

GO FOR A DRIVE

Just about everywhere you look in Ashland is full of beauty. You can drive just about anywhere in the city and see tons of tall trees and Wildlife around.

WALK AROUND DOWNTOWN

There are a few main walking trails that go right along the river straight through downtown Ashland. I would highly recommend parking anywhere you can because everything is Within Reach on foot. If you have a kid put them in a stroller so you can navigate up the light Hills. There’s so many shops to stop at you could spend the whole day walking around.

VISIT EMIGRANT LAKE

Less than 15 minutes outside of downtown Ashland is a cute little late with very easy access. The views are gorgeous and you definitely get a country vibe from it. There are few. To hang out on and it looked like they had paddle board and boat rentalsnas well!
 VISIT SCIENCE WORKS

Science works is a children’s museum within 5 minutes of downtown Ashland. Admission was $10 for an adult and $8 for children 2 to 10. Very engaging for toddlers!

Our arrival into Oregon Territory and Glenyan RV Park in Ashland!

I think it’s safe to say we were all really happy to leave Redding. Although we got to spend one amazing day they’re due to some technical issues we were excited to get back to Oregon or Scott and I had originally met. On our one-day of downtime and Redding we did get to do something really cool I wanted to mention. They have a driving range where you hit floating golf balls into the Sacramento River. Aqua golf driving range. They also sold really good cheap beers and had free kids club rentals. We ended up paying for a bucket of balls several times and rented two clubs that a dollar each. We had so much fun there and ended up staying the afternoon hitting balls into the water!! The views were amazing!

Anyhow we managed to pack everything up and leave Redding California around 10 or 11 in the morning. The drive up north was extremely hilly and we knew there were some steep grades ahead so we decided to drive separately. So of course Scott drove the RV and I drove Annika in our Honda CRV. the drive up was gorgeous here are a couple of shots of the scenery changes along the way. The Siskiyou Summit and Mt Shasta were beautiful!!

We have reservations at glenyan RV Park which is about 10 minutes outside of downtown Ashland. When we pulled into the RV park we were amazed at the trees the running water and the beauty of the park. It looks like the spaces are pretty far apart as well and the park is not overcrowded..

Here is our spot. We are super close to the creek and Annika has been enjoying playing in it. The RV park also has chickens that roam the property, basketball court, swings and a merry go round.

… There’s so much to do here… Oh not to mention they also have a pond and a general store. Tons of green grass for Annika to play on and fun bridges that cross over Neil Creek!!

Ashland has one of the most amazing parks in the world to me. Lithia park!! They have a 93 acre beautiful Green Park with a pond a creek running through it and a huge children’s playground. It is a very safe and fun place to play and Annika has been looking forward to this park the whole time so of course we had to go check it out…

And naturally after playing we decided to go hit up a dreary. We had found Standing Stone Brewing very close to Lithia Park and decided to walk on over due to the awesome beer list they had!

I was really happy about this place because they had a kids menu with a $3 fruit and veggie tray option. I wish every single bar on Earth have this because it’s super good for kids to snack on and cheap for us to get! How awesome is this?

I opted for the beer sampler and they brought it out in this really cool tray…

They had enough room on their patio that we got to sit outside in the sun and enjoy the sunset.

The following day we spent mostly at the RV park playing at the swing set and basketball courts and just walking around following the chickens and Crossing Bridges. The weather has been phenomenal just about 70 degrees with the light Cool Breeze. I love it so much here and don’t want to leave but I’m looking forward to seeing friends and Portland. Scott and I love to disc golf so we looked up the course and found one on Southern Oregon University campus. We ended up playing about 9 holes and had a lot of fun with a beautiful view overlooking Ashland.

This morning we got up early and decided to head to the local farmer’s market. We walked all around Ashland and took Annika back to Lithia Park for a second time. You can bet she’s asleep right now after all the playing she did. We have a couple more days in Ashland and then up to Portland we go!!!
