Getting the house rented out!

This weekend has been a long time coming. Tomorrow, Saturday, is our open house. We hope to have lots of great leads for potential renters from the company we hired to manage the property while we roam in our home! 

How did we prepare for this? Omg. So. Much. Work. Due to the extensive and welcome rain, weeds have been popping up like CRAZY. Over the last few weeks we have spent what little free time we have in the evenings pulling weeds. And no, we refuse to pollute our yard with poisonous weed killers. Instead, it’s kind of a stress relief but mostly we like the environment so we pull weeds ourselves. And… We have taken at least 10 trips to Goodwill and women’s shelters to donate unwanted items…And when you’re moving into an RV, almost everything is unwanted. We went room by room to analyze and determine which precious items are really necessary. 

Our home is practically bare. No king beds (minus the RV queen we moved into our room) no kitchen table, no chairs, no couch, no rugs, no decor, no wall art, no excess plates, cups, or bowls… Really truly down to what we can take and what we need. It’s been fun. And hectic. But we have found it is much easier to keep the house clean when you don’t have anything to get it dirty! We even slimmed down our toddlers toys to the bare minimum.

Our clothes are practically all gone! We have select summer clothes and good quality winter gear and jackets, otherwise, it’s all gone. I feel lighter just looking at my closet and it feels great! We should have done this years ago!

Linens too! This is all the bedding we are bringing…And the few towels we have are already in the RV!

The funny thing is now, i feel like we are taking too much still! Perhaps more will be donated along the road. 

Our goal is to be out of the house by April 1… Which is a week away!!!!! We already have reservations for an RV park in phoenix for 2 weeks while we tie up loose ends and prepare the house for renters. 

What else has happened? Our cat is rehomed and hot dog is with my dad. One dog left and i think she has a new foster mom lined up! I know it will be a tough transition for our kiddo as this dog is her BFF. 

Yesterday was a big day too! We took our first official load of items to the RV, including winter gear, electronics, and outdoor/sports equipment! Everything is clearly labeled. Thanks to another awesome full time RV blogger we decided on the clear totes!

Oh and the neighbors KEEP calling the police on us!! 3 times to be exact. Why? At first because we were parked in the street…Which we had no idea is illegal. So we moved it in our yard which looks a bit ghetto but there’s plenty of space. The good news is the cops said they can’t do anything about it and it’s ok on our lawn. 

Tomorrow is the big day. Entire house is cleaned and ready for renters. Here’s to being a landlord! Gnite for now.

Week 3: Double Whammy. A Yard Sale and a Visit from Grammy!

Busy. Busy. Busy. Drink….Drink…Busy. Busy. Busy.

This is about how I would sum up this past week. First, we were so excited to have Grammy visiting from Granite Bay, CA! She was kind enough to fly in and arrive at a good time of day, to avoid rush hour, but the same for flying out too! Anyhow, she planned her trip to come visit her favorite 2 and a half year old, while we (mom & dad) prepared and managed a yard sale… because you know… not EVERYTHING is going to fit in our RV. (Scott really wants to name our RV, Arvee, the RV. I’m resisting LOL)

Anyhow, apparently A LOT of work goes into executing a yard sale effectively. Not only were the entire innards of our home stripped down, everything was strategically organized into sections (albeit appeared a disaster) it was actually semi-organized and thought out. This is SOME of what we had staged to sell in the spare front room of our house:

I have to admit, we did a pretty good job of planning, preparing, and working our way through this. Beer helped a little too, as we were up till midnight the night before the sale…which we had advertised to start at 8am with NO EARLYBIRDS… do you think they listened?

We borrowed fold out tables and chairs from family members (thanks Tia/Tia/Ed/Janet) and had everything ready to go….including other items not shown in the photo, like furniture, outdoor stuff like shovels, tarps, fishing gear, etc.

Miraculously, we woke up on Day 1: Saturday morning, on-time at 5:30AM. GOOD THING! I made a rush run to Starbucks while Scott prepped the tables. Then we got the items out of the house and onto the tables for display!

We turned our mess into this… semi-organized mess:


We must have done a good job advertising because BUSINESS WAS BOOMING! So MANY people showed up at 720AM that we just had to tell them we were open and start selling!

By the time 2pm (closing time) came around, we sold over $700 worth of stuff that we didn’t need anyway. I would call that a successful day!

We were exhausted, to say the least, BUT one more day to go… then it’s all over!

Day 2 was tough to wake-up, so we “slept in” till about 630AM… got more coffee and set everything up AGAIN. This time was different though, we already made more than we expected on Day 1, so anything this day was just a bonus.


Nobody showed up until after 830AM!! Such a drastic change from just a day prior. It was much slower, granted a Sunday, but we still raked in another $200+ through some strategic wheeling and dealing 🙂

By noon (closing time!) we were DONE. And I mean, didn’t care if people ran off with the remainders… in fact we were encouraging people to take items away…

We packed up the remaining items, dropped them off at Goodwill and called it a day.

Oh yeah… then we had to pickup the 9 Yard Sale signs we had placed around the area… and return the tables/chairs we borrowed… and count the money…

All in all, we couldn’t have done it without Grammy. And we can’t wait to see her again in Northern California!!


Work on the road? Live in an RV? Sure, why not!

This is our very first post, in a series, of hopefully several years worth.

Here’s the basics:

Who? An adventurous family of 3, including 2 (30 something) adults and 1 (awesome/intelligent/moody) 2 year old toddler will be roaming in our home around the US. Our dogs, cat, fish, and chickens will be rehomed to excellent care takers. One of us holds a steady 9-5 jobs, working 40+ hours per week, with benefits, 401k, blah blah blah. The other one of us is an entrepreneur owning a professional resume writing business, with the ability to work remotely.


What? Is more like “what’s at stake?” well…. we currently own a 3 bed 2 bath, 1500+ square foot home in North Central Phoenix, Arizona. We live on a nice side street with low traffic with a huge front yard, carport, pool and large backyard (just under 1/4 acre) with 3 fruit trees (lemons, oranges, and limes), we have a 30′ covered patio, oh yeah did we mention a POOL!?! Because it’s Phoenix, that’s pretty important. Anyhow, we are risking all these comforts and luxuries for a life on the road. Here’s an old pic of our house, there are a lot more trees and plants out front now.

When? Our tentative leave date will be April 1, 2017. However it is very important to keep in mind…that date is tentative and flexible. We’re shooting for this date yes, but we have a GINORMOUS list of things to finish before we can go, let alone all the prep we have on the RV. Our entire trip travel plan is based upon leaving this approximate date. So if we leave earlier or later, we will adjust travels accordingly.


Where? Around the US is the easy answer. We definitely have a list of must-see places, and some might-see places. We would like to get to Maine, starting from Arizona, and heading North through California, Yosemite, Oregon, and Washington. Then we will break east, go to northern Idaho, and visit Canada and Banff National Forest. Come back through Montana, and head East before the fall kicks in. Ideally, we would like to be on the East Coast by mid-August to see the leaves turning colors. Once it gets cold, we will head south for the winter. Traveling down to Florida to spend time in Key West. Then head back West through Atlanta, Dallas, Albuquerque, and back home to Phoenix.

Again, this is our FIRST TENTATIVE PLAN. We realize that it can and will change.We  plan to remain flexible and adaptable along the way!



We have the resources to work remotely. The freedom. The challenge. The sights. The sounds. The once in a lifetime opportunity. Our daughter is only 2.5 so no day to day formal  schooling is required, and… well…we can!! Wouldn’t you? Oh yea, and this…
